I had this piece in my garage for f-o-r-e-v-e-r! I bought it while thrifting (go figure) for its shallow depth. There's not a lot of are in the entry, so I knew I couldn't use anything wide or big in the space. After bags and keys and stuff started piling up by the front door, I brought it inside (unfinished) just to organize the entry.
It looked like this.
Functional, but just plain. We DIYers don't like plain, do we?
I used a weird blue/green Oops Paint that turned into a green/grey finish after rubbing it down with a walnut stain. I didn't prime the piece. Just started with a good wipe down with TSP. The top was a bit run down, so I sanded it smooth and stained it walnut. Stained the inside as well. I have to admit, I got a bit too into the sanding process. It was rather cathartic. I would sand, then sand some more, then for some reason, not think it was enough and sand even more. After I was finished, I had tons of sanded "blotches" all over this piece. Hubby asked if it was supposed to look like that. Me: "Like what"? Hubby: Some sort of animal print. LOL!
